However, tattoo shop owners and their respective tattoo artists should consider certain risks associated with the classification and remuneration of tattoo artists as independent contractors. This form is an employment contract between an independent contractor and a company that owns and/or operates a tattoo parlor or store. The agreement is a contract between an independent employee and a company. The agreement lists each person`s obligations, responsibilities and commitments with respect to the employment of the self-employed person in the company.

There are many different ways to pay the employees of the tattoo shop and the decision of how they pay belongs to the owner of the business. As a general rule, tattoo shop owners, as businesses, must withhold income tax, withhold and pay social security and Medicare taxes, and pay unemployment tax on wages paid to a worker.
