Firefly Immersive

Firefly Immersive harnesses the power of immersive technology to radically improve treatment and care for many types of behavioral health conditions.

Scott and Andy started on the ground floor at Firefly, using our experience at other startups to engineer “The Sanctuary”, a flexible and modular VR-based platform that helps address a variety of mental health concerns. We already had a fair bit of VR experience, which was very helpful as we developed a platform to work across a variety of VR headsets (various Pico, Oculus / Meta Quest, HTC Vive, Vive XR Elite ). At FireflyVR, we manage a few dozen builds for different clients, do HIPPA compliant data collection, and wrote many internal systems for authoring content. Andy is spearheading our collaboration with Monash University on Cognitive Bias Modification for alcoholism.

The bulk of our software at Firefly exists in Unity, but we also wrote jupyter notebooks in Python for data analysis and a companion app in Tauri (an Electron alternative) and Next.js.

We have a significant amount of interactive video content, which has made us experts at ffmpeg and Unity’s timeline package.
Since we created many modules, I got to experiment and stretch my wings and explore new VR interaction paradigms. We have a strong focus on usability and comfort, since our clients often include people who aren’t ‘digital natives’.
