Reclaimed, a uDG 2008 contest entry

Hello all, it’s been a while since our last blog post; I’ve been working on a contest entry called Reclaimed, and finally finished it!

You wake up on the surface of an unfamiliar planet… The last thing you remembered was the doors of the escape pod closing in front of you, and flames filling the window. As you look around, you can see another escape pod entering the atmosphere, leaving a trail of smoke. There are other survivors on this virgin world.. and more landing every day. Thousands were on your ship, now can you work together to survive.. to rebuild…

Reclaimed is a multiplayer role playing game that I wrote in about three months. In Reclaimed, you are given an open world, and it is yours to explore and build in, however you’d like. Unlike many traditional RPGs, Reclaimed focuses on building and player interaction over combat. It has a persistent world, so your creations will be viewed by other players! Reclaimed is influenced by games such as A Tale in the Desert, Dwarf Fortress, Eve Online, and various muds.

Just run it, and it’ll start the game. Reclaimed requires a 1280×800 or better display.. otherwise some stuff gets cut off.

On a Mac, I recommend the app bundle, it seems like a much nicer interface… no certificates to accept, etc:

Here’s the Java web start, which will run on a Mac, Windows, or Linux.
